Romaneira Tour

I was in the Douro a few days ago with António Agrellos, who has bought himself a camera. We decided to film a virtual tour of the vineyard and winery of Romaneira. António was cameraman, I did the talking. We probably both have a little progress to make in the production of movies, but I post up the result here in three parts as it will give you a global vision of the Romaneira vineyard project.

  1. Dear Christian,

A very good job on your first videos of Romaneira, I quite enjoyed them. Romaneira is a spectacular property and I must say I loved the restaurant and its magnificent view when I last visited. Of course I can’t forget the lovely meal as well.

Earlier this year I was able to acquire more of the 2004 Douro wine, which is a favorite of mine from this vintage. I also must mention the recent bottling of the 10 Year Old Tawny is one of the best in its class!

I look forward to the next time I can visit the Quinta.

    Best,
    Andy Velebil

    Dear Andy

thanks for this. well done for getting hold of some of the 2004 Red wine. Alas there is almost none left now. I have been convinced from the beginning that the best new Douro Red wines would age very well, and this is proving to be so both for Romaneira and Noval, whose 2004s are lovely now. Unfortunately most of the wines have now been drunk, but this is perhaps a hasard for a new category. Interestingly, as they age, they seem, to develop a fine delicate aromatic character, which I think comes (in the case of these two wines anyway) from the Touriga Nacional grape, which I personally believe is a grape that gives finesse above all, rather than “bigness” and power, which I think is the image some people have of it.

Glad you like the Romaneira Ten Year Old. All best Christian

  2. Dear Christian,

thanks for sharing the videos with us. I do believe in the potential of the wines and the tourism of Romaneira. To my believe it is too little known, but it’s information like this to spread the idea.

    All best

    Axel
